Tubies Going Green?
Yep! by viewing our website you're helping storms river hostels to move away from printed media.
Keep Clicking and save trees!
By the way, we are tree befok! We've hacked down hundres of alien saplings which is what near 90% of Tube 'n Axes cosmetics is made of and we've planted more than 500 indigenous trees in our enormous garden.

We recycle our waste, waste water feeds our lush garden. We're getting an organic veggie garden going that will act as an incubator for our Stormsriver Primary School's veggie garden... the list goes on.
Green initiative in the Pipeline:
- Methane digetor
- Windmill to pump tubies water supply
- Solar powered geysers/lights

History
Tube 'n Axe was opened by a forester in 2000 It was originally named Storms Hikers House and set up with a mere 19 beds to accommodate hikers before and after the Otter Trail ( www.sanparks.org/parks/tsitsikamma/tourism/ otter .php ) and Tsitsikamma Trail( www.mtoecotourism.co.za ).
The name was changed to Tube 'n Axe Backpackers after the Blackwater Tubing and surrounding forestry elements and was advertised in Coast to Coast in 2001 for the first time in 2002.
The establishment changed hands to a 28-year-old electrician and artisan from Cape Town (Marius Marnewecke) in September 2002
Marius and his business partner Stephen (an ex-Bungy operator and river guide) with the help of two permanent staff revolutionised the business from a quiet disorganised mess to a vibey first class establishment. The partnership ended in 2006 but the business continued to go from strength to strength under the guidance of Marius.
Currently, it employs 15 permanent staff, of which one has been empowered to take charge of their department on a sub-contractual basis in line with BEE scorecard requirements.
Anelma now Nelly's Kitchen has her own business as well as one perminate member of her own staff.
The business proposed to re-open Blackwater Tubing as a PFM (Participatory Forest Management) project in October 2006.
We have subsequently launched the branded product Blackwater Tubing in a new Company 'Adventure Out There Tsitsikamma' recently in October 2008.
The operation is coherent with all criteria laid out by SANParks, our public liability insurance policy and APA standards.
The project has already created employment for three people and has enormous spin-off potential.
The eco friendly Lodge is a member of Backpacking South Africa (BSA check out www.backpackingsouthafrica.co.za ), Tsitsikamma Tourism Association (TTA check out www.tsitsikamma.info ) and is based on the principals consumer sovereignty and responsible tourism. Other links:
